This term we have been investigating structure. We built some towers with paper and sticky tape. We also built models with toothpicks and playdough.

We learnt that one of the strongest shapes is triangle. We also learnt that it is easier to make a tall, stable structure is to have a wide base.To make a strong structure you have to have multiple layers.I have proof because I actually did it and won.Just saying we had a couple of late contestants.

Over the past few weeks I learnt how to make a tall structure out of newspaper but not only were they tall but we also had to make sure that they were stable.

In the newspaper challenge,to make strong and stable structures I found that building in a triangular form can make it more stable because it starts wide and then gets thinner, so it gets lighter and the bottom is heavier. I'm positive because Corran and Thomas from my class won by doing this and they won the tallest because everyone else's couldn't stand.

Benoy and I came second in the toothpick change because we made a structure that was tall and stable.

This term I learnt that to make a tall, stable structure you should use any triangular shape to keep it strong. A triangular shape helps make it strong because it is a stable shape. The tallest structure was a tri-pod.

I learnt how to make a strong tower by making a triangle base, and then its stable. I rolled newspaper rolls up and made the triangle base. My tallest tower did not actually stand up. It was more of a flat, long tower because it didn't have a base to stand up on.

You can make structures stable by putting support on the side. The way you make them stable is by putting half of triangles on the side.

By putting more toothpick and more playdough it makes the structure stronger.

A triangle is the best way to do the structure. If you look at a bridge, it always has a triangle holding it up . We had a go to do the tallest and we had to get the tallest to stand. I cut the bottom but it was not staple so it kept falling down so I had to change the way I did it.

I learnt that play-doh is not as strong as you would think and it is difficult to add toothpick, although it was hard it was fun.

David and i won because we built a very stable house and then put a tall tower on the top of the house but the house was very stable at the bottom as well as the top and the top of the house was a very strong triangle
